21-22/02/2023

Hi everyone! After the winter exam session break we are finally back and we offer you a great opportunity.

Since the Hand Root project, born from the collaboration between BEA and AEA, is about to begin, we have organized two lessons concerning the interpretation, analysis and processing of electroencephalography signals (EEG). The lessons will be held by Andrea Farabbi, historical BEA member and PhD student at Polimi in this field. Andrea will be supported by Alessandra Calcagno, PhD student in bioengineering at Polimi as well.

WHO? – The event is open to anyone interested (no need to be a member of the associations) and it will be held in english
WHEN? – On the 21st and 22nd of february, from 18.15 till 20.00.
HOW? – The two lessons will be organized as follows:
February 21st: EEG introduction (theory and basics of the analysis)
February 22nd: functional connectivity, application using Matlab, case study
WHERE? – in room 3.1.3 on february 21st and in room 3.1.5 on february 22nd.

To participate, we ask you to fill in the form available in the link in bio of @beapolimi .
It is a unique opportunity to enter in the world of cerebral signals and to lay the foundation of a career in this field. We look forward to seeing you!

Finally, the first BEA and AEA project has arrived! You will have the opportunity to put into practice what we learn every day at Poli!

WHAT’S IT ABOUT? The project involves the creation of an artificial upper limb controlled by brain signals by means of a sensor helmet. The aim is to control the hand through the signals received by the helmet, which will measure the brain activity in certain lobes of the brain and communicate with the hand. The idea is highly innovative and has enormous potential since the potential medical or technological applications of this project could open up new scenarios.

HOW IS THE PROJECT ORGANIZED? Two teams will be created, one will handle the development of the hardware part of the prosthesis (CAD modeling, 3D printing, numerical simulations…) and the other one the software part (EEG signals, helmet-prosthesis interface…). The two teams will work in parallel and in synergy, staying up to date on mutual needs through special meetings.

The initiative is reserved for BEA members (if you are not a member yet and want to become one, you can also find this form at this link).

We look forward to seeing you trying and creating something that has never been done before!

New developments and updates soon. Stay tuned!

“Informe yourself, donate, save”

Nobody has the power on someone else’s life, but each of us has the great privilege to donate to give the possibility of living to someone else who is living surrounded by illness.
We donate a smile in order to let other people to wipe their faces from tears , we donate a drop of blood in order to fill someone else’s life.
A simple thought and a drop of blood are able to rigive the life responsibilities to who is risking to lose it.

BEA, the Biomedical Engineering Association, in collaboration with “Amici del Policlinico Association “(ODV blood donors), Aido and Admo, is organizing a seminary to bring students closer to the world of donation, specifically donation of Blood, Organs and Marrow Bone. During the conference, the associations will present themselves and they will explain the importance of donation, the eligibility criteria to become a donor and the path of the donor himself.
There will be a marrow donor, a organs’ donor parent and a transplanted patient who will testimony how easy it can be to become donors and to give someone else the chance to live or to improve their lives.
Finally, there will be three stands for those interested in becoming donors.

WHEN: Monday 9 DECEMBER, 6.15 pm
WHERE: class 3.0.3 (EX S.0.2)

BEaSpeaker is the name we’ve chosen for our new project. It’s born from our brand new idea to promote open discussions about a series of topics we’ll have the opportunity to think about, to choose and to face together.

The first event will be held on Tuesday October 29 with the partecipation, as a guest, of a nuclear engineering student of PoliMi who has been divulgating and writing scientific articles officially for Scientificast for some time.

The topic he suggested is hadrontherapy… Don’t you know what it means? Do you want to learn more? Come and discover it!

When? Tuesday October 29 at 18.15

Where? Plaza Andaluza – Via Antonio Grossich, 2, (M2 Lambrate), Milano

Hello everyone!

Since we’re all engineering students, we all aim to innovate and improve the existing technology. And, as biomedical engineers, we often deal with illness, injuries, prevention and diseases in general, focusing on how to solve health related problems. What we usually miss, however, is an extremely relevant part of medical research: how to deal with people. Do we really know, perhaps, what’s behind a clinical trial? What to consider when we’ll be actually developing tools which affect lifes? How will the technology of the future fit with our routine ?

To learn more about the topic, save the date! May 7th, 5.30pm-7pm, room 9.1.2 :

TALK: Ethics and Biotechnologies

Held by Prof. Sergio Cerutti, Head of Ethics Committee of IEO and Cardiologico Monzino, Vice-Head of the Ethics Committee of Politecnico di Milano (and most cited Professor of the university according to Google Scholar) who will talk about “Ethical problems in Biomedical Engineering for the Advances of Health Technologies ” and Prof. Daniele Chiffi, teacher of the course Ethics and Technology, who will talk about “Clinical equipoise and Research Ethics”.

It is a good chance to know more in deep about research and development in real life, other than a very important, yet often underrated topic, so we hope many of you will be able to attend!

09/05/19 - 13/05/19

Have you ever wondered how biotechnologies will change our lives? How far can we push ourselves? What impact will we have? Many students are going to graduate and do a job that in few years might be really different.

IMPACTSCOOL was born from the idea of stimulating and educating people, in a critical and conscious way, on the possible impacts that technologies might have on our future. Knowing the potential of exponential technologies and learning how to use it could be an extraordinary resource. This is why Impactscool organizes workshops, events and debates for free, in schools and universities, about topics such as artificial intelligence, genetics, robotics, virtual reality and 3D printing, and the impacts that they can have on our lives.

BEA organizes a workshop for you with Impactscool!
